Extended Family Session
The holidays bring around all kinds of guests and it's a really great chance to catch up on extended family sessions. I got the chance to photograph the Miller's (husband's side of the family) a few years back. This year, I got the opportunity to photograph the Miller's (wife's side of the family). Both times have been a wonderful treat and since both of their sessions have gone so well, I wanted to pick apart their demeanor to see if I could pass along tips to other interested clients.
What really stands out to me are the dynamics between family members during a session like this. I get a quick feel for the personalities --- because let's face it, everyone is different and not everyone is totally comfortable in front of the camera. But with just a few led prompts, I can see how to help push those gorgeous memories through. Break the group down to give younger members a break, get the boys to relax by giving them a fun challenge, and let the girls catch a case of the giggles with silly questions.
This year, I hosted the Miller's in Holly Springs and the unseasonably warm temps right before Thanksgiving were PERFECTION! I love it when all the ingredients to a session work together. This one had it all: great weather, coordinated but not perfectly matched outfits, positive attitudes, gorgeous smiles, and a fun-loving spirit to really make it happen for all those involved. If the thought of extended family sessions give you anxiety, this is proof that they can be beautiful and fun.
